Predjama Castle

Trust J.R to post a picture without any explanation.  The castle is Predjama Castle in Slovenia.  While restoring the castle at the end of 1990, they found buried treasure in the cellars from the 16th century which is now in the National Museum in Ljubljana.  The most famous inhabitant of the castle was Erasmus who lived there in the 15th century.  He took refuge in the castle after he killed a family member of the emperor.  The emperor's men finally killed the knight in 1484 after a year and a day of hurling stone balls with catapults at the castle.  One of the servants of Erasmus betrayed him when he shone a light indicating the whereabouts of Erasmus (nature calling); and when the stone ball hit, rocks came crashing down and killed Erasmus.  They had been able to survive in the castle all this time because of the system of caves that exist and were able to leave through the caves and obtain food.
