Got this story in an email:There recently was the death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena Sendler.
During WWII Irena got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. She had an “ulterior motive” because she KNEW what the Nazis’ plans were for the Jews, Irena, who was German, smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. In the back of her truck she also carried a burlap sack for larger children. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered any noise the infants made.
Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children and infants. She was caught and the Nazis broke both her legs and arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the children she smuggled out in a glass jar buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited those families. Most parents had been gassed. Those children were placed in foster homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize…She was not selected.

Thansk for this blog. In the e-mail that you sent to me their was a wave file to play in Window Media Player that was set up as a data file and opened in NotePad. Was there a video with this, if so I would love to watch it. What a wonderful woman and her peace prize was received in heaven.I am sure many of those she saved were waiting for her and that she had a glorious reunion.
I don't think there was a video but I will check further and let you know.
